Equalities Portfolio Holder Role Profile

Role and Function of the Authority’s Equalities Portfolio Holder 
  • To drive the equalities and diversity agenda across the whole organisation framework.
  • To show commitment to promoting equality, increasing the profile of equality and diversity and challenging discrimination.
  • To demonstrate excellence in their approach to valuing diversity and implementing equality of opportunity.
  • To be responsible for overseeing and reviewing outcomes against the Authority and Force’s Equality Schemes and related Action Plans and provide a report (by exception) to the Human Resources Committee on a quarterly basis.
  • To maintain and develop equality and diversity skills and competences through attendance at training events and reflecting on ‘lessons learned’.
  • To keep up-to-date with new developments across the nine protected characteristics of equality and diversity.
  • To maintain contact with the Authority’s Equality and Diversity Officer and the Force’s Equality and Diversity Officer.
  • To engage with diverse groups within the local community and attend local community events as required.
