External Audit Report

The Authority's External Auditors (the Audit Commission) has presented an Annual Audit Letter that reports on the findings from their 2008/09 audit.  This section provides the latest messages from the External Auditors.

Scrutiny Findings: Implementation and Outcomes

Scrutiny work comprises detailed evidence based assessment of particular services or issues of local concern that can be developed or improved.  The Authority commits a significant amount of time and resources to scrutiny work.  It is therefore vital that the Authority not only achieves its objectives in relation to individual scrutinies, but also that it drives continual service improvement.   This section highlights the lasting benefits of the scrutinies that the Authority has been involved in since April 2008.

Policing Pledge HMIC Inspection Results

The Force HMIC inspection of the Policing Pledge took place during July and August 2009. The main interviews and focus groups were carried out during week commencing 27th July 2009.  Before, during and after the main interviews, reality checks were conducted across all areas of the Force. The Force received an overall grade of Fair.

HMIC Inspections and Results

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC)(external website) is responsible for examining and improving the efficiency of the police service. They carry out inspections of high-risk areas of policing and give each force a score against national standards.
