Community Engagement
To approve an annual Communication / Engagement Plan taking into account the need for community engagement, cohesion, equalities and partnerships. Consider and implement mechanisms to encourage and enhance community participation in the development of policy options. Review the results of consultation undertaken for the Policing Plan and to advise the Strategic Planning Committee accordingly.
To liaise with other external organisations operating in the area, whether national, regional or local, to ensure that the interests of local people are enhanced by collaborative working. Maintain an overview and from time to time consider the effectiveness, role and functions of all consultation activities.
To advise the Authority on ways of raising the profile of the Authority to increasing awareness of, and support for its role. To be responsible for the Authority’s public relations activities. Implement and monitor the Authority’s Engagement and Marketing Strategies.
Community Cohesion and Diversity
Consider and implement measures to enhance communication and engagement with diverse communities, especially young people, minority ethnic groups and disadvantaged or vulnerable people. Oversee the progress of the Independent Advisory Groups. To implement and monitor any national plans, policies or initiatives impacting on community cohesion and diversity issues.
To maintain an overview and to consider issues relating to Children and Young People. To monitor and review the use of stop/search powers.
Partnerships
Collaborate with partners to increase co-operation and reduce duplication in relation to both consultation for and implementation of any partnership activities. Manage and co-ordinate the Authority’s involvement in the work of each Community Safety Partnership and other relevant partnerships.
Risk Management
To have due regard, in exercising its responsibilities, to risk issues generally and the specific risk issues contained within the Authority’s Risk Register.
Equal Opportunities
Have due regard in exercising its responsibilities to equal opportunities generally and the requirements of all equalities, anti-discrimination and Human Rights legislation.
Value for Money (VFM)
To have due regard, in exercising its responsibilities, to securing VFM.
Tasking and Finishing Groups
Appoint Tasking and Finishing Groups on an ad hoc basis to undertake specific time limited tasks.
