Independent Member Selection Panel
Panel Members
The Independent Member Selection Panel comprises five individuals, three of whom are appointed by the Authority; one appointed by the Home Secretary; and a fifth member (the “independent assessor”) who is appointed jointly by the other Panel members.
The Selection Panel currently comprises the following members:
- Councillor Barry Young Police Authority Member
- Angela Crowe JP Police Authority Member
- Sarah Skelton Independent Lay Member of the Ethical Standards Committee
- John Hope Home Office appointee
- Jim Edgar Independant Assessor
Role
The Panel is responsible for drawing up a shortlist of suitable candidates from which the Authority will make its appointments during the final selection stage. The shortlist must be twice the number of Independent Member vacancies.
The selection and appointment of new Independent Members is made in accordance with relevant statutory requirements and detailed guidance jointly issued by the Association of Police Authorities (APA) and Home Office.
