AUTHORITY NAMES BIDDERS FOR OUTSOURCING CONTRACT
5th August 2011
Lincolnshire Police Authority today announced that two organisations have been selected – from a shortlist of five chosen from the original 160 bidders – to compete for a multi million pound contract for the provision of a range of support and policing services over the next ten to 15 years.
The contract, worth around £200 million over ten years, involves the widest range of services ever offered in a single contract by any UK Police Authority.
Ten other authorities have indicated an interest in the Lincolnshire initiative. If they decide to follow the county’s lead, spend on outsourcing across UK policing could total £2billion over the next decade.
The two organisations invited to participate in the next stage of the search for a strategic partner are:
G4S (contact John Shaw , 0845 3012879 )
STERIA WITH RELIANCE (contact, Paul Dexter 07720 899223)
The Authority and the Force need to meet an anticipated budget reduction in the next four years of £19.7 million.
Authority Chairman Barry Young said:’ We may be seen as highly ambitious – even unrealistic in our aims. But we are working hard to deliver improved services against a background of severely restricted Government funding. We can only achieve our objectives by embracing change.
Our search for a strategic partner began in March and we were delighted with the response from organisations that have excellent national and international profiles.
We are confident that we can manage this period of unprecedented change in such a way that our decisions will continue to provide the best possible value and best possible policing for the people of Lincolnshire’.
Deputy Chief Constable Neil Rhodes commented: ‘The timescale may be very short to achieve probably one of the most significant developments ever in policing in the county, but we are confident of success. This is the time for bold decisions.
We set ourselves a similarly testing target to make significant structural changes to the Force, improving our operational delivery .We accomplished that in just six months. There is no doubt that Lincolnshire is leading the way when it comes to coping with the consequences of financial challenge’.
The next stage of the outsourcing project will be in November, when the Authority meets to announce its final decision on the contract award.
