AUTHORITY RE-ELECTS CHAIRMAN

27th May 2011

At today’s Annual Meeting ,Lincolnshire Police Authority  elected Barry Young to serve for a third term as leader of the Authority.

Mr. Young, a Conservative County Councillor representing Sleaford Rural South, is also a Board member of the Association of Police Authorities, with national portfolio responsibilities for police performance and legislation.

John Cooke ,OBE , an Independent member of the Authority, was re-elected as Vice Chairman.

Mr.Young said: ‘I am delighted to have been re-elected at this crucial time for policing in Lincolnshire. The Authority and the Force continue to make good progress in re-shaping the Force so that, despite severe Government cuts in funding, we can deliver improved services to the people of Lincolnshire.

The status quo was never an option. We have already established a framework for closer collaborative and partnership working ; the Force divisional structure is being replaced by a streamlined “one Force” approach and we anticipate a number of  back office functions being provided jointly with other Forces and/or other local public sector partners.

In March we began formally to investigate whether the private sector would be interested in providing services to us. We are still actively engaged in the process. It is one of a number of ways in which we may be able to derive benefits for the people and the policing of Lincolnshire that will last well into the future”.
