NEW AUTHORITY MEMBER WAS RAF COMMANDER IN GULF

 

Retired Air Commodore Andre Dezonie ,OBE, has been selected as an Independent Member of Lincolnshire Police Authority.

 

Mr.Dezonie, who lives in the Grantham area, has completed front line flying tours on the Harrier as a squadron pilot, flight commander and squadron commander.

 

In 1999 he became the first black officer ever to command an RAF base when, as a Group Captain, he took control of RAF Wittering. He served at Wittering until 2001.

 

He was awarded the OBE in the 1999 New Year Honours List for services to the RAF.

 

Staff tours have included the RAF Presentation Team and Offensive Operations at Headquarters No 1 Group.

 

In 2004 he was deployed to the Gulf as the UK Air Component Commander. He later became Director of Officers and Non Commissioned Aircrew at the RAF Personnel Agency before being appointed Director of Capability Integration, Carrier Strike.

 

Mr. Dezonie said:  “I am delighted to be appointed an Independent Member of the Police Authority. It is a privilege to be able to serve our community in an organisation that has such an important role to play in the delivery of effective policing”.

                                                                                                               

 Welcoming the appointment, Chairman of the Police Authority Barry Young said:” I was personally involved throughout the selection process. Andre Dezonie came through a very strong field of over 100 candidates drawn from all over the county and representing a whole range of different backgrounds and experience. He was able to demonstrate how his particular skills and knowledge will bring added resilience to our team. I look forward to working with him as we continue to strive for still better policing services for everyone in Lincolnshire”.
