SCHEME FOR CUSTODY VISITING TO POLICE STATIONS IN LINCOLNSHIRE

Section 3 - Frequency of Visits

  1. Having regard to the need for visits to be sufficiently frequent to meet the objectives of the scheme, the merit of broad uniformity in arrangements and also the effect which too frequent visiting may have on the operational efficiency of the stations, visiting will be undertaken on the following basis:

    (a) Two visits per month to each of the following stations:

    1. Lincoln Lane, Boston - Boston & Spalding Panel

    2. Westlode Street, Spalding - Boston & Spalding Panel

    3. Stonebridge Road, Grantham - Grantham Panel

    4. Park Avenue, Skegness - Skegness Panel

    5. West Parade, Lincoln - Lincoln Panel

Visitors have the right to visit any of the above stations at any time of day without prior notice. However, this need not prohibit visitors from giving a degree of notice to the custody officer at the station should they wish to do so for their own convenience. In general, however, the principle of visits being unannounced should be adhered to.

    (b) One visit per month to each of the following stations:

    1. Morton Road, Gainsborough - Lincoln Panel

    2. Boston Road, Sleaford - Grantham Panel

    3. North Street, Stamford - Grantham Panel

    4. Eastfield Road, Louth - Skegness Panel

    5. Mayflower Way, Mablethorpe - Skegness Panel

As the level of cell occupancy at the above stations will vary on a daily basis, visitors are advised to contact the relevant custody officer on the day of a planned visit to ascertain if there are persons being detained. Visitors can then make an informed decision on whether to proceed with or postpone a visit.

  2. Exceptionally, circumstances may arise where the police may wish to initiate a visit, particularly where there may be public concern about the treatment or well being of a person in custody and where a special visit could help allay public fears. On such occasions, the responsibility for contacting an appropriate visitor will be with the Divisional Commander. Such requests will be made via the Clerk to the Police Authority where this is practical.
