Mr Young was appointed Chairman of the Police Authority in September 2008. Married with grown up children in different parts of the county, he has lived in Heckington, at the centre of the large rural electoral division which he represents as a Lincolnshire County Councillor, since 1984.
Mr Young has extensive experience as a barrister and in business as well as many years of service in the local community as a charity trustee, churchwarden and school governor.
As Chairman of the Authority, Mr Young’s special interests are in crime reduction and prevention, increasing public trust and confidence and driving and scrutinising Force performance and efficiency. In addition to his duties as Chairman of the Authority, Mr Young chairs the Strategic Planning and Senior Officer Appointments Committees and sits on the Finance and Performance and Human Resources Committees. He also represents the Authority on the Lincolnshire Assembly Sustainable Communities Strategy Board, the East Midlands Collaboration Board and the Association of Police Authorities of which he is a Board member with national portfolio responsibilities for Police Performance and Legislation.
